How does Botox work?

Over time, the muscles above and between the eyebrows repeatedly contract, leading to the formation of wrinkles, as do forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet. Botox Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface, targeting the muscle activity responsible for these lines. When we squint or frown, nerves release a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, which makes the muscles contract. Botox binds to the acetylcholine receptors, blocking this signal.

Once injected, the nerves continue to send contraction signals, but acetylcholine cannot bind to the muscles, reducing muscle activity and temporarily preventing contractions that cause frown lines. The binding effect begins within about 48 hours, with results becoming noticeable in 7 to 10 days.
